Lessons

Lessons at SWC Piano are designed to keep students engaged and excited to learn! Beginning student lessons focus on familiarity with the keyboard, beginning note reading, musicianship and creative skills. Our learning goes far beyond the method book and includes rote-taught pieces (learned by ear), improvisation, duet playing, games played at the piano and on apps, and using percussion instruments to practice rhythm.

Returning student lessons focus on technique, music theory, musicianship, and creative skills. We play music from a variety of genres (classical, blues, pop, ragtime, etc…) and learn to read lead sheets based on student interest. We practice improvisation, learn rhythm through percussion instruments and rhythm cups, and use games and technology to practice musical concepts during lessons and at-home practice.

Performance Opportunities

SWC Piano offers students and their families formal and informal performance opportunities throughout the year including a holiday open house (a coffee house-style event for studio families), studio performance classes, a spring recital, and outreach music sharing at local retirement and senior communities. We also gather online for virtual piano parties and sharing events.

Interested families may participate in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs (OFMC) Piano Festival and local Ohio Music Teacher Association (OMTA) events such as Pianorama, Scale Olympics, and Solo and Ensemble.
